No Place Like Home

So I finally managed to do my first LO for this class in between cooking Sunday Roast today! The prompt was to scrap what your definition of home was. I grew up in Torquay, but now live with my own family in Leamington Spa, so I wanted to depict the 'versus' element to my Home Defined. The journaling reads:

- I lived in Torquay from birth until I left for university in 1999. I remember wonderful summers spent on the beach everyday. Torquay is certainly a seaside resort.

- I still think of Torquay as my home, as it’s where most of my family still live. We spend Christmas holidays and any other opportunity we get there.

- I would like to live by the sea again, Torquay would be nice, but anywhere near there will do!

- Steve & I have lived in Leamington Spa/Warwick since 1994. Before that, after graduation, we lived in Birmingham for a year.

- Leamington Spa is special as it’s our family home. It’s where the girls were born, will grow up and go to school.

- We have lived in our current house for 7 years. It’s a detached house with a large garden, only 5 minute walk from school. The house will always mean something to us as Mia made an early appearance and was born in our bedroom!

I normally handwrite my journaling, but it just didn't look right, so I decided to type it up instead - although I think I prefered the LO before I put the journaling on! Used the first of my Scarlet Lime Mar kit - MM 5th Avenue Line a 12x12 DLO.

With so many new supplies to play with, I thought I should use up some of my last kit and made this little notebook based on one by Maggie Holmes. The covers are laminated and the pages are College Press Journaling cards. I'm going to use it to keep track of all my crafty project ideas.

F is for Friends & Fridges

I'm a bit behind on a few creative challenges so I spent some time catching up yesterday. Firstly the F pages for the girls' A-Z journals on Friends. I did the E pages at the beginning of the month, but found them a bit uninspiring so decided not to upload them, they're on their eating habits.
The stamp on the tag is from my new Scarlet Lime kits- and oh my there is loads and loads in it I feel slightly overwhelmed by it.

The second challenge I caught up on was Overlooked which was on my Fridge and shopping habits. I've done 3 LOs for this now and I'm going to start constructing it into a minibook soon.

My two new classes started this week - firstly 'No Place Like Home' (which I plan to use all my Scarlet Lime kit on). There have been 5 daily prompts this week, but as the girls are on their Easter holidays at the moment, I'm saving them to work on when they go back to school. The theme this week has been Hometowns or places where you feel at home and includes a couple of LOs and 2 minibooks.

The second class is Painting with Light, which doesn't actually start until 4th April but we've had homework to upload to the forum so that CJ can get a feel for our work. This included a self-portrait and for a laugh I'll post it here. It was my first time using the self timer and a tripod and so the result is slightly out of focus.

A New Challenge

I've done the weekly challenge on UKS, it was to:
- Stretch the title across the page
- Use a circle
- Use 3 of something
- Use Spring colours

I spent ages on this LO, cutting out, working out the alphas, restamping the journaling block 3 times, yet I don't like it anymore than the LO below which I spent about 45 mins on. It just shows that it's not how long you spend but the end outcome that matters. That said I do enjoy the creative process when I'm spending longer on a LO, it generally means I'm trying out something I've not done before.

Scraplifting

I don't know if it's because I'm still finding my style and getting confidence in that, but I find myself scraplifting quite a bit or using PageMaps for inspiration. This LO was scraplifted from Danielle Quarmby in Scrapbook Creations magazine.

Two New Classes

After a bit of deliberation I've signed up for Shimelle's 'There's No Place Like Home' online class and Cheryl Johnson's 'Painting With Light' online photography class. Photography is an area I'd definitely like to improve upon and was going to have a go at it big style next year, but I'd heard lots of great reports about Cheryl's course and she's only running this one once this year.

So it looks like it's going to be a busy April!

A Bit of This & That

Haven't posted for a couple of weeks, think I hit a bit of scrappers block, but got right back into it yesterday.

The 1st two LOs are using more of my SL kit. The new kits go postal this week, so I thought I'd better use some of my supplies up.

The next two are for the OLW challenge - TRUST and TIME

This is a 12x12 DLO of the weekend I've just spent with my NCT friends. It's the first weekend away I've had from the girls and Steve, and had such a lovely time just being ME!
